CONTAINER STORE

Jewelry Junkie

August 6, 2013 by emily 22 Comments

Over the years I have become a collector of many things. Makeup. Jewelry. Clothes. Some men may call it a problem or even hoarding, but most women I know will defend their “collection” until the day they die.

“I use/wear everything in my closet!”

“I read in InStyle and they sait its totally coming back!”

“I’ll be able to pass it down to my grandchildren!”

“I don’t gain weight in my feet, so I’ll be able to wear these shoes forever!”

Sound familiar? Don’t feel bad! I always say the only time it becomes a problem is when you can no longer keep it organized, which is why I’ve developed a system for practically everything in my house! (Did you check out my post about organizing your makeup?) So, today I’m going to show you what I use to store my massive amounts of jewelry…

I keep one of these 12-Drawer Storage Chests in my closet and store a lot of my jewelry in it. You can probably find something thats prettier, but my goal was cheap and functional especially since no one ever sees it. Each drawer is labeled “Silver Necklaces”, “Gold Necklaces”, “Rings”, etc..

For my necklaces I put each one in a small plastic baggy so that they don’t get tangled and when I travel I can just throw them into a bag and go. For my earrings I cut the tops off of tackle boxes to keep them separate.

Do you have any creative ways to store your jewelry? Let me know in the comments!

I like to line my drawers with velvet fabric, so jewelry stays protected and doesn’t get scratched! I also do the same thing by keeping everything in little bags, so when traveling, easy to grab and go!
    Nice post!

i LOVE the idea of putting them all in mini storage bags! just had to defend my “collection” to my husband after moving. (he was not thrilled with my shoe dressers. no joke.)

i put the necklaces that i wear on a regular basis on the back of my door with this organizer: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50226780/. i find that, if they’re in eyesight, i’m more apt to wear them and not fall into the same jewelry everyday.

    thanks for sharing your tips!

I just purchased an Over-The-Door Mirrored Jewelry Armoire. It’s a full-length mirror that hangs over a door or you can hang it on a wall. It opens up to an amazing storage space for all of your jewelry. There’s even a small mirror inside so you can see to check your jewelry without having to open and close the armoire. It’s amazing and costs around $140.00. Love, love, love.

Great idea! My 6 yr. old daughter kept wanting to look through my jewelry, and the necklaces would get so tangled. Now I hang them on horizontal tie and belt hangers… the ones with hooks the whole way across on both sides of the hanger. That has worked well for my necklaces!

I have a jewelery box but I definitely need to get myself a storage chest with drawers, it would be much easier!

Thanks Emily – great storage ideas here.I think the ‘small plastic baggy’ (lol) for each necklace would stop tarnishing as well. Could you please share how you curled your hair when you were the bachelorette in a future post. We love you in Australia. Cheers from ‘down under’.

Fantastic idea! I have a jewelry chest but it is overflowing, so this would be a perfect solution and would totally fit in my closet!

As a designer of beaded jewelry it is great to read that so many of you ladies want to keep your jewelry untangled. Hanging your necklaces is the ideal storage & certainly , to keep them from getting scratched up, storing in plastic or organza bags is a good method.

Oh boy, I just figured it out to keep everything from tangling and quicker access than baggies:

Emily, I just purchased two of these thanks to your post. 1 for jewelry and 1 for my cosmetic collection. You mentioned in your post that you labeled the drawers, how did you do that? I cant get anything label wise to stay stuck ha! Thank you.

I’m a nerd and have a label maker! Or you could just get masking tape and write on it.
