RIP My Sweet Holly Bear Hendrick

RIP My Sweet Holly Bear Hendrick

I originally planned on doing one of my normal posts about what new beauty product I'm loving or what to wear to your friends winter wedding, but after this weekend it just doesn't feel right. So, if thats what you're looking for, check back on Wednesday because things will be back to normal then, I promise.

If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter, or even know me in real life, chances are you've heard me talk about my cats, Holly and Safari. Just like any other true cat lady will tell you, the amount of pure joy and love these two animals have brought into my life is impossible to put into words. Goodness knows I could go on and on for days trying to though!

Holly, my beautiful white cat with the brightest blue eyes you've ever seen, has won over the hearts of every anti-cat person that has walked through my door. Many people said she reminded them of a dog because of her playfulness, love for chasing water in the bathtub and drinking out of the toilet. I could count on her (we changed his her sex when we got her because Ricki wanted a girl) to sit at the kitchen table with me every morning while I did my reading and be there on my pillow every night as we fell asleep. Holly and Safari both have been there for me during some of my lowest lows and highest highs, and love me despite them all.

Last week my sweet Holly Bear Hendrick (Ricki named her!) went to heaven and my heart hurts more than I ever thought possible. Losing a pet opens up all types of wounds and the only thing we can do is give ourselves grace every day.  I'm just so thankful for the time I got to spend with Holly and don't think any other cat in the world could've turned me into a proud "Cat Lady" the way she did.

    • Emily this post was so helpful to me! On Friday we had to put our sweet golden retriever, Moses, down. He was almost 10 and we got him when I was 8. I grew up with him and he has been with me through all of the ups and downs in life. My heart is so sad and it's been so hard being home without him. I am praying for you as I know that losing a pet is very difficult. Blessings,

      Rachel Erikson

    • As a fellow cat lady my heart breaks for you. It makes me cry just thinking about the pain you must feel. I cant even imagine. I know Safari will do his best to cheer you up, because cats always know when you need extra love. xoxo

    • I'm so sorry for your loss miss Emily. I don't have any pets anymore but I did lose my dog many years ago and I still miss her. Pets come into our homes and hearts and never truly leave. You gave her a wonderful loved-filled life and I know Holly was grateful. My thoughts and prayers and with your family. PEACE+LOVE<3

    • Oh Emily, I'm so sorry for your loss. It is really hard to lose a pet. The bond you form with them is so unusual and deeper than many people will ever understand. Hugs to you and miss Ricki!

    • I am so sorry, Emily! I know you and Ricki are hurting today. Our pets are part of our family, and losing one is so painful!! I will keep you, Ricki and Tyler in my prayers! Love to all of you!!

    • As a fellow crazy-cat obsessed lady, I am so sorry. My husband and I have 6 y/o brother & sister blonde tabbys who take up more space in my heart than I believe to be normal. Before them I rarely even wanted to pet a cat let alone own one. Funny how things change. My deepest sympathy for your loss. She"he" was beautiful!

    • I could NOT believe this when I read it. I am going through the exact same loss. I have two adorable dogs that I count on as much as you said you counted on your cats. They have been my life for the last 14 years. I sadly had to say goodbye to one of them last week and I have been devastated. It's more heartbreaking to know that my other one is just as old and isn't too far behind. It leaves such a hole in our heart. I am sorry to hear about your loss, but grateful that you shared it.

    • I'm so sorry for your loss! As a self-proclaimed "Cat Lady" myself, it took my oldest cat to make me love and accept cats as pets.

    • Oh Emily, my heart goes out to you. Although I am not a cat person I can appreciate the pain you must be going through.
Our yellow lab Roma is almost 15 yrs old and I canNOT imagine my life without her. We got her as a wedding present to ourselves. She was there long before we had children and she's my side-kick. May the beautiful memories of your precious pet help you during this difficult time.

    • Emily I'm sorry to hear of you loss! I am a diehard cat lover myself and lost my oldest 10-10-13 still seems like yesterday! I miss him daily, have a canvas on him above my bed. Thoughts go out to Ricki also!

    • What a gorgeous kitty! So sorry for the losss if your beloved pet!

    • I am sorry for your loss! She was just a beautiful cat! Pets are precious to us and love us no matter how bad our days go. Praying for all of you.

I am truly sorry for your loss of Holly. She is waiting at the Rainbow Bridge young and healthy. I have 4 cats and I know the love that you had for your baby. I just know that God gave us memories so that we could always remember.

    • So sorry for your loss!! They are family and it's hard to lose a family member. Many Hugs!!!

    • I am so sorry for your loss, Emily. We found a yellow lab about 7 years ago when she was a puppy running through the woods (someone dumped her there) we brought her home and she became the center of our family. I was really sick a few years ago and almost died, she knew, don't ask me how because even I will never know, but somehow she knew that I was in really bad shape and she refused to leave my side. I would wake up in the middle of the night and she would be at the foot of my bed watching me, I guess to make sure I was okay. Shortly after that she was diagnosed with cancer and we had to put her down in May. That was the hardest day of my life, I will never forget sobbing in the vets office (I don't cry in public) knowing that we would have to say goodbye.

You don't get over losing a pet, people don't understand that sometimes pets become true family, sometimes better than your actual family. It does get easier though, I'm looking forward to the day when I see my puppy running towards me again and we can cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

      Best wishes,
      A Fellow Emily.

    • My hearfelt sympathy to you, Ricki, and Tyler. I saw how much you admired your cats and it brought much humor to our communications with you over the years. I lost my first Wheaton, Sandy six years ago and know the pain and loss you feel. Knowing that my pet was not well and she was at rest helped me heal. Eventually we replaced her with another Wheaton Terrier and she too is a dear part of my life and my family. Keep posting, keep sharing, and we will keep supporting and smiling about all the new paths you will be taking! Xox and hugs.

    • So very sorry for your loss....I send my prayers and sympathy to you Ricki and Tyler. You can tell how loved Holly was and how much joy she brought to your life. You gave her a beautiful life filled with love and happiness and she'll be running through God's beautiful gardens looking down over all of you. May your feel the love and prayers of those who support you!

    • Emily, I'm so sorry for your & Ricki's loss. Our pets are part of the Family & just like our kids. God Bless

    • So sorry for your loss. I raise Himalayans and they have the BEST purrsonalites of all cats (IMO). Hugs to you and your daughter

    • so sorry ive been there it's hard you were sp lucky to have her as long as you did i love cats

    • Emily my heart goes out to you and your sweet family. Why do bad things happen to good people? I'm gonna be 23 this month and the past two months I started having seizures with no rhyme or reason. Still no idea why. And anything that hurts your heart can make you angry at the world but that's why having faith is so important. That's what'll get you and your beautiful family through this. Cause hey, pets are just as much family as anything :) good luck getting through this time Emily. Xoxox

    • Emily I feel your pain. We have lost many pets in our household over the years the hurt you feel is strong but your kitty will alway live in your heart. There will be many time that something will happen, you will think our your kitty. God bless you and your daughter at this time.

    • Truly sorry for your loss ...I know how it hurts lost my Diva Sheba 15 yrs old cat last year ....God Bless

    • I don't know everything about death and dying, but sometimes just reaching out to others while enduring our own loss helps us realize we are going to be okay. XO

    • I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty. What a beautiful and sweet looking cat! I wanted to write to you because my cat Rosealie just died about 3 months ago. She was also a pure white long haired blue eyed Persian. Although our cats
did not look that much alike. She was 16yrs old and had a couple strokes. She was in so much pain I had her put down. I dug her grave and a few came to the "funeral." She is buried in
my parents back yard and I bring flowers out there even though it's very snowy. She was my
"dream cat" I don't think I'll get another but will contribute to ASPCA or Humane Society.

    • Emily & Ricki, I know how you are feeling. I had to make the unfortunate decision to put my cat Jeremy down five years ago after vets told me there was nothing more they could do for his cancer. That day was one of the hardest I had had to endure - Jeremy was like a child to me and had helped me get through the roughest days. I knew I would get another cat (I'm a cat tragic) but never thought I could ever love another one as much as I loved Jeremy. A few weeks later, I walked into my house after a long day at work and found a kitten curled up on my bed, admiring itself in the mirror (my husband and two sons have this belief we live in a cave - the front door is never shut unless I close it myself - and were just as shocked as I was to discover the intruder). To cut a long story short, despite trying to find his owner, we found ourselves the owner of a new cat. Five years later, Tigger is well and truly the alpha male in our house (at least he likes to think so) and keeps us entertained all hours of the day....and night. He is completely different to Jeremy but just as loveable. Keep hold of the memories - love for a pet is forever.

    • I wasn't going to comment but something has compelled me to... I am so sorry for your loss. I have a Maltese Shih-Tzu mix and he just turned 7 in December. Our 7 year anniversary of being together is this weekend, and all I can keep praying for is at least 7 more years with him. I already cry at the thought of having to say goodbye some day. Our pets really do have a way of making their way into our hearts, and becoming as important as family. I can't imagine the pain that you feel, and how much different your home must feel. God bless your home and family. May the beautiful memories with her (him) stay with you forever.

    • Sorry to hear of your loss.I've lost a few pets over the years. It was so hard on my son when his guinea pig died but it was an opportunity for him to learn about love and life and loss. You'll get though this and maybe open your heart again to another animal sometime in the future.

    • Hello Emily. I am so sorry for your lost of your family member ( pets they are our family ) my sister Nancy lost her bulldog 2days ago (Miss Molly Valentine) my brother in law n my husband drove to N.C 10 years ago 2/10/04 to get Miss Molly for my sister for a Valentine gift and to help her get through us losing our mom 2/24/2003. I don't think my sister will ever be the same with out Miss Molly . You come to realize how our pets have not only an impact on us but whoever crosses their paths. I am so sorry to hear about your loss.

    • Dear Emily, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's been a year since we lost our precious boy and I will forever miss him so I understand your feelings. Thank you for sharing your family with us. I'll share with you that my baby was my Valentine present in 1994. He lived to be 20 and ironically we got his ashes back from the vet on Valentine's Day last year. He's with us every day in spirit as Holly will be with you and Ricki. God bless you and your family.
