The Most Perfect Couple I Know

March 31, 2013 by emily 32 Comments

The other day I went to the mall with one specific mission: buy a birthday present for my friend. Thats it. Nothing for myself. You would think that after 27 years I would know myself better than to ever think that was actually going to happen. Well, long story short, I eventually did find a birthday gift but not before I left the YSL counter at Nordstrom with one of my favorite lip combinations ever. Oops. I hate when that happens. I’ll do better next time.

I love YSL Sheer Candy Glossy Balm because it goes on like a lipstick, feels like a chap stick, and looks like a gloss without the stickiness. Their new line Rouge Volupte Shine is just as wonderful but with a little more pigment for when you want more color. The lipstick on the left is #15 Coral Intuitive and its a pretty nude color, perfect for when you’re doing heavier eye makeup. I layer it on top of their Glossy Stain #27 Pêche Cerra-Cola. I usually don’t love stains, but this one is unlike any other I’ve tried because it lasts forever and doesn’t dry my lips out like most. I love this lip combination for an everyday look, but its also a great balance for a smokey eye at night.

Love! What do you typically wear/recommend for a matte deep red lip color?

You mentioned you layer the lipstick on top of the lip stain. You don’t layer the glossy stain on top of the color?

I love you and all of your suggestions. You’ve got me hooked on so many other amazing products. Thank you!

If any of you have not stumbled upon YSL Rouge Volupte silky sensual lipstick… Holy moly. Nude Beige (shade #1)… Come to mama. It literally feels like silk, but is SUPER pigmented. And if I’m gonna spend that kinda moolah on lipstick, it better. Does NOT disappoint!

Hey Emily! YSL’s Rouge Volupte #15 is “Extreme Coral,” but the Rouge Volupte Shine #15 is called “Corail Intuitive.” Which one are you referring to? Thanks!

You bring the energizer bunny out of me. Considering an afternoon nap, I saw that pucker and I knew there was no napping with that imprinted in my mind. So back to work.

Hi Emily! So you layer the lipstick ON TOP of the gloss? Or vice versa? It’s such a gorgeous combo- can’t wait to try it!

I’m a big fan and hope you are doing well! From what I have viewed on TV, you seem very sweet and I wish you the best in life. Thanks for the tips! I just ordered both and can’t wait to try them out! I have the same hair/skin coloring as you so I hope it looks great on me too! We live in South Carolina but our mall is Charlotte South park! Every time I go there I tell my husband, “do you think we will run into Emily Maynard today?” He always laughs. Take Care!

    As the previous poster posted…

If you pile the lipstick ON TOP of the glossy stain, will that take away the gloss? Normally people would apply the gloss over the lipstick, if it’s not a typo then I will have to try it in reverse!

Dior’s lip glow addict is another great one. It reacts with your lips to give you your own pigment, but it moisturizes like Chapstick and looks like a gloss giving your own pink hue. Love it for a pink lip color.

Emily, I’m not a fan of stains, as you said, they dry my lips and sometimes look like a clown. Anyway, I’m trying to find a great color for my wedding in May. You think the stain and gloss will suffice? Thanks! The beauty blog is so much fun!
