CLE DE PEAU: Nordstrom/ KEVYN AUCOIN:Cusp/TEMPTU: QVC/ BENEFIT: Macys/ NYX:Ulta

Concealed Weapon

May 26, 2013 by emily 39 Comments

Can you believe I never wore concealer until about 2 years ago when the makeup artist for The Bachelor put it on me? I had no idea what I was missing and now it has become an absolute staple in my makeup bag. I have different types that I like for different areas and some that are good for all over. On days that I’m just out running errands, I apply a little concealer under my eyes, some blush on my cheeks, a coat of mascara and I’m good for the whole day with half (ok..a third. Maybe a fourth if I’m being honest) of the makeup I usually wear.

Cle de Peau– Its super expensive but lasts forever and can cover pretty much anything! This is one that I use all over my face. Anyone who has ever tried it, swears by it.

Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer– This stuff is THICK but masks literally anything you need to cover. I use it on days that I a) have a serious breakout I need to cover up or b) will be on camera. I always mix it with some type of moisturizer and just use a tiny bit.

Temptu Under Eye Concealer– This has been one of my favorite under eye concealers for a long time. It really brightens your eye area so much that it can be worn alone.

Benefit Fake Up– I keep this one in my pocketbook and use it all over my face throughout the day if needed. I love it because its very moisturizing and won’t get into any fine lines.

NYX Concealer Wand– I use this one in Yellow to really brighten under my eyes.

Don’t forget a lesson it took me awhile to learn: very few things can age you faster than too much concealer. Just use a tiny bit and remember, you never need as much as you think you do! To apply mine I use a damp Beauty Blender or a MAC 130 Brush. I use both of these everyday that I wear makeup and love them, so if you don’t already have them I would definitely think about it. And don’t forget to use a setting powder once you’re finished so it lasts all day!

What are your favorite concealers? Do you have any tricks?

Thanks, Emily! I got sun damage when I went to Greece and I’m in the look out for good concealers. The one that I’m using right now isn’t so good.I’ll definitely try Cle de Peau, even if it’s expensive!

Givenchy Mister Perfect. I use it every day for under eye concealer. Its a very light formula with a brush applicator. I have been told for years that you do NOT want to use anything heavy there, because it can create fine lines and wrinkles. It also works as a highlighter…so its perfect for those sleepy morning eyes. Brightens, conceals and works on imperfections as well!

I REALLY love the MAC Prolongwear concealer. I used one shade lighter than my foundation in NC to really brighten my under eye. My tip to you is to try to Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder to set your under eye concealer. This was a recommendation from MakeupByTiffanyD (my favorite beauty guru). Not only is it so fine milled that it won’t settle into fine lines, but it has a very subtle radiance that gives you the glow under your eyes that everyone wants! You must go out and try it!! 🙂

I love Stila’s perfecting concealer and Dermablend smooth indulgence for undereyes and Hourglass’ hidden corrective concealer for the face. All amazing products! I mix the Stila and Dermablend together to get my perfect color. Love you Emily, you’re a huge role model for me!

La Mer concealer w/ SPF 25
This treatment cream concealer instantly evens the skin’s appearance and boosts radiance. Gemstones capture light to camouflage dark circles and blemishes, optically erasing imperfections to create a smooth, even finish. Marine and plant extracts help reduce the appearance of under eye puffiness, lines and wrinkles and minimize pores. Redness and discoloration are diminished as the skin is calmed and soothed. Fine layers provide buildable coverage. SPF 25.

    It’s my favorite!

    Hi Emily!

You say you use these “all over your face”. Does this mean you use them as a foundation replacement? If not, can you recommend foundations to use over them?

Thanks so much for your helpful posts!

I have noticed that a lot of bloggers have been rav ing about the benefit Fake Up concealer lately. Would you recommend that over the Temptu Under eye Concealer, as both are the same concept but the formula will naturally differ?

Also for the people who asked I also love the Mary Kay TimeWise eye revitalizer and the Mary Kay TimeWise Repair volufirm eye cream. they both have applicatiors that make it very cooling and to stimulate the blood flow and makes your dark circles go away! they are awesome. give em a try 🙂

I absolutely LOVE my Arbonne concealer. My friends know it’s my go to item that I refer to as my “eraser!” Love it!! It’s not too thick or thin. I use it all over and just erase! 🙂 It doesn’t settle into fine lines and lasts all day! I’ve never been into foundation, so I use it all over, with just pressed powder or mineral powder on top. It’s great to hear what you use! I definitely recommend trying anything by Arbonne. I love everything!

I took a class with Trish McEvoy and she taught us an amazing trick called the “Magic Triangle.” You take concealer and create a triangle that goes under your eyes, down to the side of your nose, and up diagonally to the outer corner of your eye, then you gently blend it all in. It creates a pretty but subtle spotlight effect on your face. Try it and believe.

    Emily,

I know I am a little late on this post but have a question about application. I am considering getting the Cle de Peau but was wondering how to correctly apply it. Do you just dab it on your face with the stick and then go back and blend with the brush? I have never used one that was a stick concealer rather than a tube before.

    Hey Emily!

If you like all those, you should give a try to the new Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. – that thing looks so natural and IT DOES NOT MOVE! I swear it’s the best I’ve tried, and I’ve trying a lot! It does not crease (I always thought all concealers do and whatever brand claimed theirs don’t was just lying).

    Anyway, just a tip!
I just discovered you had a beauty/fashion blog and I’m soooo glad! Every episode of the bachelorette I was checking out your make-up, arm parties and cute clothes! Yay!

I love the Laura Geller ‘Real Deal Concealer’ for under-eyes. It’s inexpensive ($22), non-drying, and the tube seems to last forever! It is full-coverage, but somehow doesn’t look cakey on the skin. A little goes a long way! It is definitely worth trying! I’m wishlisting the MAC 130 brush, as well as the Temptu and Kevyn Aucoin concealers you use/recommend! Thanks! =)

I have the Kevin Aucoin Sensual Enhancer but I have NOT figured out how to put it on properly yet! I heard Nina Dobrev uses it though and her skin always looks so creamy on the red carpet so I had to have it. Another good concealer is Mac Pro Longwear and oddly, the Covergirl or Rimmel Concealer sticks from the drugstore. They are so cheap, but really good coverage. http://www.lustforblush.com
