What I Wore: Church Edition

March 10, 2014 by emily 12 Comments

After my last blog post I’ve gotten a couple “Ask Emily” submissions asking for help finding outfits appropriate to wear to church, so I figured it would be easiest to start with the exact details of everything I’m wearing!  Many people think that in order to dress “church appropriate” you have to give up your own style or that you have to look like a nun, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.  Of course, you should wear something that doesn’t show too much skin, but that doesn’t mean you can’t pile on the jewelry and wear your favorite pair of high heels!

You can also wear tights with a skirt that might be a little questionable.. I always say if you have to ask someone if it’s too short, it more than likely is! So, try wearing a pair of opaque tights so you’re a little more covered up. My favorite brand is Spanx because they don’t fade and I’ve had the same pair forever without getting any holes in them, which is a miracle for me! And instead of wearing a full on blazer I wore a blazer vest, which apparently is in style this season. I bought it while I was in Florida for New Years Eve only because it was too hot for a full jacket, and now I’m seeing them everywhere!  I’ve worn this BCBG one with everything from shorts to jeans and get compliments every time. For jewelry I’m wearing one of my favorite pieces, my Clair necklace, which I swear goes with everything and because it’s the perfect length I can layer it with other necklaces as well. I’m also wearing my Carter earrings, which make enough of a statement without competing with the rest of the outfit.

What are your favorite tips for being stylish at church? Let me know in the comments!TREchurch2:2014

I love all of your jewelry!!! I can’t seem to find the bracelet shown on the picture posted. Is this part of your line?

I love tights & skirts in the winter. Dresses with wedges in the summer. Cardigans in the fall. You look fabulous but more importantly you’re pretty on the inside! God is so good to all of us. Whether we recognize it or not.

I work with children, so I have to wear pants a lot! (It’s very hard getting on the floor with kids in dresses!!) Yesterday, I wore a white blouse with black skinny jeans, and red shoes and red jewelry. 🙂 My favorite outfit is blue jean skinny jeans, with a coral large striped shirt with teal shoes and a coral, gold, and teal twisted necklace with huge teal earrings. 🙂

Emily I adore that vest. It is so versatile, you can really dress it up or down, in the winter or summer. As I am sad to admit I am only an occasional church goer, I always am at a loss of what to wear. I have a few questions on what would be cute, yet appropriate. What about a maxi dress and a little cardigan over top? Or white jeans, heals, and a little blouse? I feel maxi dresses or skirts can really do no wrong! Any opinions em?? Thank you 🙂
