One could say I have a lot going on right now.. planning a wedding, getting married, selling my house, buying a new house, running a blog, a jewelry line, on top of my everyday responsibilities of being a mom and everything I’m involved in through my community. Yikes. Don’t get me wrong, every single one of those things are such a blessing and I’m so thankful that they’re all “good stresses”. However, adding another animal to our zoo was pretty much at the bottom of the to do list. I guess the saying, “when it rains, it pours” really is true!
When I came home from church on Sunday Tyler surprised me with this sweet puppy that he found out in the middle of nowhere in South Carolina. My reaction was a mix of, “Have I been drugged? There’s no way he’s serious and there’s actually a dog in my driveway,” to “He’s cute, but when are his owners going to be here to pick up him because he’s not staying with us.” His fur was matted with goodness knows what, you could see every bone in his body, and you could tell his poor paws were in bad shape as well. We would be a perfect foster family for him until we could find someone to take him! Well, somewhere between giving him his first bowl of food, his first vet visit, and an (expensive) trip to Petsmart, we bonded. His monogrammed “Nash” bed will be here next week and we’re officially WAY out numbered by animals, but (as I’m trying to remind myself daily!) what fun is life without a little bit of chaos? 🙂
PS– Does anyone have any guesses as to what kind of dog he could be? Anyone done the blood test that tells you? Let me know in the comments!
Dear Emily – I have always admired you, but now I truly love you! Thank you for adopting such a sweet dog and giving him a great life. You’re definitely my type of gal!!!!
I’d guess a lab/Rottweiler mix!
A good way to tell is by the dogs markings. I’ve had a Rottweiler/ German Shepard mix that looked a lot like Nash, with the brown above the eyes and the brown paws and chest. Dobermans also have similar markings which is the dog I have now. Definitley a mix of something and my guess would be between a Rottweiler, German Shepard, and possibly a doberman. All “bully breeds” , but I’ve had ever kind of dog I just listed and they’ve all been sweeties. I don’t believe in bully breeds, if you train any dog right they will be great dogs 🙂 hope you find out what breed Nash is!
He definitely has rottweiler in him, if he isn’t full blood. We currently have one and have owned them in the past. They are amazing dogs. In spite of the news, they are known for being amazing with children.
It looks as though he is a Doberman mix? He looks just like my dog and he’s a Doberman-Hound mix.
A cute one that is what mix he is. I love when a man is passionate about animals it tells alot about him. Congratulations on everything in yiur life. I wish yiu and your family and furbabies the best.
As a huge dog lover I have to say there is definitely a mix of what looks like a Rottweiler and maybe a lab. Regardless of the breed looks like you have yourself some happy puppies! He’s precious
He is so cute!!! His coloring looks like he could have some Rottweiler in him!
He looks like a Rottweiler/German Shepherd mix! Possibly even a little Lab in him. In any case, he’s gonna be a big boy! 🙂
awwww….he is super cute. :)’ That’s so sweet of ya’ll to keep him and take care of him.
He is adorable…looks like he’s got some Rottweiler and Shepard in him…he’s lucky he has a new forever home. Ricki must be over the moon. You certainly have alot of craziness going on in your life but it’s good craziness that will bless you many times over
Congratulations to you and your family on the new addition! He looks so precious and is a very lucky guy to have found his forever home with you. Just by his pictures I would guess he is a labrador/shepherd mix or possibly labrador/rottweiler. I would put my money on the lab/shepherd though. I’m a research scientist as well as a HUGE dog lover so I can tell you from experience that none of the current “breed tests” actually work very well. The biomarkers that differentiate different breeds just aren’t separated enough at this point to give an accurate read. They are relatively inexpensive though and it might be fun for you guys to help guess what Nash is but I wouldn’t put too much stock into what the results tell you.
Looks like our German Shepard when he was a pup looks he could be a mix of something else. Don’t let anyone tell you he is a bully mix it’s all in how you treat him. Our German Shepard is the biggest sweetheart just give him lots of love and set boundaries he will be great no matter what mix he is. Good Luck!
I once had a border collie/yellow lab mix that looked just like him! Such a sweet, sweet puppy!
I have a puppy that looks just like him and he is a hound mix. He has a little bit of lab in him. He a lot of the same markings.
Emily your a amazing person!!!
Thank you! xox
Nash is definitely a Rottweiler cross. I would guess either Lab or German Shepard, but I’m leaning more towards Lab! He’s beautiful!
Love your outfit btw! Gorgeous as always! 🙂
Thank you! I’m guessing he’s a rottweiler mixed with something too.. I’ll keep you all updated!
We just adopted a 12 week old puppy that looks just like him! Our little girl is a Lab/German Shepherd mix.
I’ve done the genetic test to find out the breed – twice! We did it on a puppy that we adopted to get a bit of an idea of how big he would be, and what kind of training he might need. I firmly believe that all dogs can be sweet dogs, if raised and trained properly. I would recommend it! One of ours turned out to be a Collie and Golden Retriever, and the other is a Lab and Cairn Terrier mix!
I work at a pet hospital and we do DNA testing for pets. We take some blood and send it out and you get back a family tree type thing going back to their great-grandparents I believe. It will also tell you other breeds that could have been in their line of DNA before. It’s pretty cool!
He looks like my Dottie! Definitely has Rottweiler in him. Soo cute!
He is adorable whatever he is. We just had a puppy dropped in our lap too. He is yellow lab similar to Knox. When we got him 6 weeks ago he weighed 7 lbs. Now he is 21. How big is your Knox? We also have an 87lb Australian Shepherd. I needed another dog like a hole in my head. Good luck!
I say she’s a Rottweiler! Super adorable and such a sweet face!
Looks exactly like my new rescue pup, Emmett! He is a Shepherd/Lab mix and we are so blessed to have found him. Congrats on your new baby! You rock for rescuing 🙂
She looks identical to our puppy,Bonnie, and she’s a blue heeler and Rottweiler/ lab mix. She’s the sweetest girl!
Rott mix for sure with those markings.
We adopted a baby once who looked a lot like Nash….. Totally thought rotty…. But as she grew up she became a German Shepard….. Best dog we have ever had!!!! Love her and miss her bunches!!!!!! Nash totally looks just like her:))) good luck with the new baby:)
What a cutie! I say German Shepherd/Rottweiller mix!
Enjoy, and make sure to crate train, it will keep Nash safe and out of trouble when you aren’t home and will keep your belonings from getting chewd up!! Also, make sure he gets socialized well!
I rescued a puppy from the shelter in January. She was one of nine puppies that someone threw off a bridge in the icy cold. Thank goodness the bag got caught on a tree and someone found them and brought them to the shelter. I did the Wisdom Panel 2.0 Saliva Test. It was pretty easy, inexpensive (around $65), and you get your results in 2-3 weeks. Our puppy Sadie, looks very similar to a yorkie, but ended up being miniature poodle, manchester terrier, and border collie mix. Looks can be deceiving, lol. The test also predicts their adult weight. Again, a little bigger than what we predicted. I hope you enjoy Nash and be sure to post when you find out his breed 🙂
How many animals do you have? 😉
Way too many!
He looks like a little Rottweiler pup! Congrats on getting married so happy for you guys!
Ha ha! How many is way too many? 😉
When is the wedding btw? 😀
Hi there. I did some research on the test, and came across a pretty good article about a guy who used two different tests and got two different results, so I am not sure how entirely accurate they are. Definatley looks like he has rottie, which is one of the most loyal breeds you will ever meet.
Oh my goodness… Pixie!! What breed is she??? I want one!
She’s a maltese.. She’s definitely the boss of the house 🙂
I’ve already commented but upon researching a local shelter here in our town has a picture up of a dog that is identical to your pup, they are saying it is a Lab/Corgi Mix. If I could I would post his picture on here for you to see.
I would def say ROTTWEILER because of the face. The color is also rottweiler and German shepherd. You can tell a lot about a dog’s size by the PAWS. If the paws are big, it’s going to be a big dog and perhaps more German shepherd than lab. Hair dogs like labs/rottweilers shed a lot. Furry dog hair like German shepherds looks more fluffy and coarser. I would say this dog is 80% rottweiler. Which is great because Ricki will need a body guard when she turns 12. hahaha!
Your awesome!! For saving him..poor thing.. this is why i like dogs more than people!! He looks a bit rot tie and Shepard.. get the DNA test for him
Emily, he looks exactly like my new pup, Lola! She is a mini Australian Shepard/Lab mix. The colors are the exact same as well. That would be my guess. He sure is a cutie =)
He looks exactly like my dog, and my dog is a Shepard/Rottweiler mix.
He looks like he could be a sibling of our dog Ginger. He has the same brown markings as she does. She is a Rottweiler/Lab/German Shepard mix! That would be my guess! Beautiful puppy!
I have done DNA test on all 3 of our rescuied dog. It’s very helpful to learn about their temperament, and to watch out for health problems that run in the breads. Congrats, I’m sure he will bring so much joy to your life. 🙂
He is a cutie whatever he is! Such a blessed dog to have y’all find him to give him the love he deserves!
Def a rotty!! And they are awesome dogs! 🙂 He may be mixed with something else but those markings are a clear sign of a Rottweiler! So exciting. I had two of them before my daughter was born and she is now 9years old. We are blessed that my female is still with us and has been a great part of our family! Congrats on the addition! Nash!
definitely a Rotti mix of some sort so cute!!! you sound a lot like me kids and animals crazy crazy lol! but big hearts always give in!
My puppy looked identical, and I got her DNA tested, she is a boxer/german shepherd mix! (she also has some dalmatian and australian shepherd in her)
Emily i love white jeans but i hate that they show everything. ive tried all the best ones. how do u wear them without showing everything? any particular underwear or do u just wear long tops?
I wear nude underwear and if I’m going to be outside or sitting on the ground I just a)won’t wear them or b)wear a long top 🙂
God bless you and Tyler for rescuing Nash. Emily, I want to say how much I think you’ve grown and matured over the last two years. To embrace those sweet doggies sitting on a pollen and moss encrusted step without a care in the world to your white pants. You look downright happy and content. All the best to you and your sweet family.
I foster dogs myself, and I find rescue so rewarding! Good for you — Nash is absolutely too cute!!

I am thinking shepard and Doberman!!!
I have Samba she is like 12 now but she looked just like him as a puppy. We always thought Shepard& Doberman!!!
I have a pure bred Lab that looks exactly like Nash. Of the litter of 9 pups, two were colored like this. It is not uncommon for Labs to have miss-marked coloring due to recessive genes. It usually occurs when a Chocolate is bred to a Black. Chocolate is a recessive gene in itself, so crazy things can happen. Google “tan point lab” and you will see the color markings.
Incidentally, my lab Maggie, was bred in the middle of nowhere South Carolina, so they may be related. If so, you have yourself a good one. enjoy
My guess is a Rottweiler! I have two and they are the sweetest little angels ever.
I’m a dog lover and love that you will keep him!! What a wonderful life he will have!! I have a cute little Morkie and am considering getting her a brother or sister!! Enjoy him, he’s beautiful!!
I would guess a German Shepherd/Rottweiler mix. Based on the comments above, several others think so too. Although his paws don’t seem to be that large.
Congratulations and good luck on finding out. Seems like everyone is saying the same breed. I’m a cat lover.
dachshund/ shepherd mix
We did the Wisdom Panel 2.0 DNA test with our rescue dog. All we did was order the kit, swabbed her cheek, and sent it back. About 2 weeks later we got the results and they were extremely accurate! We ordered it off of WisdomPanel.com. They are more expensive at Petco than online. I hope this helps! Please post the results when you get them!
He’s definatly a rotwellier mix. And a gorgeous one at that!
This is the cutest puppy picture! And…you look amazing and so happy. Thrilled to hear your purchasing a new home because new beginnings are so fabulous! (and I am sureTyler needs his own closet !!!) I hope you have a run area for Nash because he looks like he is going to dig his way to China in your yard when he has the chance. I would add dog sitter, popper scooper and gift cards from Petco to your registry asap!!!!!!!!!! Your the kindest , (and Tyler) most caring person and I am so happy for you. Keep sharing because this is amazing. Hugs..
At Petsmart, they have a doggie DNA test for around $40. You swab their cheek, mail it off, and get the results back. I believe it gives you the %’s of each breed it is 🙂 Good luck!!
What a happy life you have. And now your new addition has a happy life as well 🙂 Now this may be a stupid question but I was recently looking into adopting an animal in need. However I wouldn’t know how to even go about it. What are good and legitimate shelters to adopt needy animals from?
Oh gosh I have no idea.. I know the Humane Society is reputable. We just found Nash on the side of the road. I’m sure you could search it through your town on google! Good luck!
Cute puppy. Your hair looks great. What brand of hair extensions are you wearing? Love them.
Thanks! I’m actually not wearing extensions. I’ve been trying to grow my hair out for a while.
Rottweiler Mix…such a cutie! I have three dogs and a cat…never a dull moment but they always manage to put a smile on my face!
I work in animal rescue and am SO grateful that you have taken in this adorable dog. He looks like a rotteweiler mix, but in my world we call them purebred Summa’s. Some of this and some of that. 🙂 Thank you for not taking him to a shelter where he would most likely have been euthanized.
Definitely Rottweiler with a mix of GSD or hound. I don’t see lab.
Adorable puppy & cool name! I’ve rescued 2 pups (one from an Animal Rescue group on Petfinder & one just a month ago from an animal shelter in Utah while on a Ladies Spa trip). To the Emily asking about animal shelters, be prepared to take a doggie home if you go to one because it’s heartbreaking to see their sad faces behind the cages! Emily, You’re doing a great thing by taking this puppy in..the animal shelters are overcrowded. Are you rebuying in Charlotte? I live near you (I won’t mention the development for privacy reasons) but this area is beautiful..I can’t image you would leave it!! Best of luck with wedding planning, moving & of course puppy training!
OH GOOD LORD. Let me just tell you that you are in for a lot of work. I have 3 dogs, and never did I think I would have 3. I had 1 Pomeranian for 8 years, and then I got married and we bought a mini American eskimo. And then, last spring I managed to get talked into fostering a 3 week old, 2 pound mutt. After waking up every 2 hours to feed & poop him, for 3 weeks straight, I decided there’s no way I can give him away after I just put so much work and effort into him. A year later, he’s the best thing in my life (don’t tell my husband)…but, let me tell you, 3 dogs is a lot of work, especially since 2 of them are only 9 months apart. It’s like having 2 toddlers running around my house. Plus, we have 2 cats already. It literally is a zoo. Anyways, we went to Banfield vet (inside Petsmart) and got that blood test done for $75. 3 weeks later the results came back…my little angel is American Staffordshire Terrier (fancy word for Pitbull), Bull Terrier (Target dog), and Lab. I’d def recommend the test. Now, if I could just keep him from eating my shoes, and keep my husband from getting jealous of me spooning the dog instead of him!
why wont u wear white jeans if ur going outside?
I mean if I’m going to be sitting on the ground outside.. like a concert or something.
We are animal lovers as well. We have 7 dogs,2 fish,2 snails and 3 rats. Two of us are allergic to cats otherwise we would likely have a couple of them as well. We also have 3 beautiful children. Never a dull moment:)
We have 7 dogs, 3 pet rats and 3 kids. Never a dull moment:) I love animals and would likely have cats as well but my daughter is allergic!
I have always admired and liked you, but now I really love you! What an amazing thing to do! I rescued a puppy in 2011 and although he is a wild one, I do not regret that. 🙂
Good luck with everything!!!
He looks like a Black and Tan Coonhound!
Nash will know you rescued him and always reward you for your kindness with his love and devotion. I have purebreds and rescues, and there is something so special about an animal that knows he or she has been saved.

It doesn’t matter what he is..you look like you already love him and that is what matters most…I have five dogs, a cat and a guiniea pig that some how over the last few years I have adopted and I love them all…the more the merrier..best of luck to you and your family, you are for sure a wonderful young lady….
My husband did the same thing to me, but there were TWO puppies, a boy & a girl!:-) Both were like Nash, see their ribs, full of ticks & pitiful!:( never know it now! Took care of them for 4 months til we found the perfect homes for them! Can’t say enough about ppl who take “stray” animals in, you have a big heart!:-) so happy to see that sweet face in such a loving home…you rock Emily 🙂
Just wait till he grows into his head and feet. Bet he will be pretty good size and looks like some kind of shepherd mix. Nice dog, all of them.
Just remember you should be happy and healthy with all those pets. They say a dog will help you live longer.
Good to see you truly happy and praying God’s blessings on you and family today, tomorrow, and in your future.
adorable. he looks like a cross between a black lab and rottie. so cute.
You are beautiful on the outside and in!! Bless you & your family for saving this sweet, adorable baby!! Rescue stories like yours melt my heart. I found my last fur baby in the middle of the road, too; skin & bones and very sick. He’s the biggest love bug ever. I really think animals like that know that you saved their life. He’ll be forever grateful to you 🙂
Oh boy what a full house you have! We have two dogs and three cats and a guinea pig at our house. But we love it! Pets make life fun and are great for kids to learn responsibility and unconditional love.
I just saw The Bachelor here in Sweden (from 2011, we seem to be a bit behind you 😉 and then I discovered you. I just have to say that you seem to be such a sweet and lovable person. Congratulations and best of luck to everything going on in your life Emily! 🙂
If I had to guess, I would definitely say that your little guy is a mix of Rottie and Shepard. The majority of his markings are Rottie, but his little nose is a Shepard nose. He is beautiful and I am glad that he has found you and your family.
He is definitely Rottweiler but could be a mix. My friend had one and he looked so much like your precious Nash!
Hopefully you tried to find Nash’s owner and had him scanned for a chip.
Very often dogs that go missing end up in homes that adopt them (which is good) but there needs to be a thorough check for an owner first.
If he is not a ‘missing’ pup, so glad you were able to give him a home.
Those eyes are so soulful! I have a full blood Rottie and he has those same eyes. He weighs 128 pounds and is 8 years old! He has a gentle spirit and a huge heart and would never hurt a flea! Seriously! This dog is precious! I’m proud of you and I know they can be a pain in the neck while they are puppies, but they make excellent life partners! Love your man…he’s hot! You make a beautiful couple and I wish you all the happiness in the world!
hey emily! we actually got a puppy in january that looks almost exactly like nash, right down to the white fur on his chest! our oliver is a black lab / rottweiler / hound mix. nash looks like he has the rottweiler markings. i would check to see if his paws are webbed to determine if he has any lab in him! the shape of his face suggests that he might be part lab, too. i’m no expert, but i’m guessing oliver and nash are similar in their breeds. 🙂 enjoy your new puppy! if you’re interested in comparing the breeds, i have an entire instagram hashtag dedicated to oliver here: http://followgram.me/tag/allaboutoliver {yes, i’m obsessed. but i know you won’t judge me because you love your animals, too 🙂 }
Hi Emily. I love your fashion picks. Would you please do a post of your favorite Nordstrom picks from their “Womens Sale” that just started? Thanks so much! 🙂
