I remember growing up and wondering what in the world my mom did all day while my brother and I were in school. In my mind it went something like this:
7:30am- Get kids off to school
7:35am- Back to bed
11:00am- Wake up and watch “Dr.Phil”
1:00pm- “Days of Our Lives”
2:30pm- Get out of pajamas
2:45pm- Kids come home
I’d like this post to be a public apology to my mom, Susie, because it’s only after having my own child that I realize being “Mom” is the hardest job in the world. I just pray I can do it half as well as she did! She’d volunteer to help anyone that needed it, have dinner on the table every night at 6:00pm, and keep a spotless house.
All while wearing heels and a french twist. Pretty amazing, right?
Yesterday I had an event and didn’t have time to change, so that meant running the dog to the vet (just a check up!), soccer practice, etc. in a skirt and heels. Is it weird that I felt better all day than when I wear my normal “mom uniform”? (In case you’re wondering thats Lululemon Yoga Pants.. without the yoga.) I’m not saying I want to look like a Stepford Wife, or that it’s only what you look like on the outside that matters, but maybe there’s more truth to the saying, “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world,” than I thought! Am I crazy or do you all feel better when you get dressed up too? Let me know your secrets in the comments!
I got these shoes a few weeks ago and LOVE them! They’re super comfortable and now I’m wondering what I wore before I bought them. Also, anyone who knows me knows that turquoise is a neutral in my life and how cute is my bag? Gigi New York does free personalizing, which is perfect for me since my initials will be changing pretty soon! (*All outfit details/links listed under the top picture)
I definitely believe that I get more accomplished when I feel I “look good”. Though I have my comfy-clothes days too, I always have more energy and drive when I feel good about myself. But what truly motivates me is my sweet daughters. I tell myself, get everything done today that needs to be done so that when Presley (my six year old daughter) gets home from school, she, Bailey (my three year old) and I can spend time doing what they enjoy rather than worrying about trying to finish up house work. Being a mom isn’t always easy, or glamorous, but it is the most amazing gift God gives. Thankfully, our little ones think we are beautiful in sweats and a tank top! But I do agree that there is something about dressing up that makes you feel ready to take on the world!
Emily- I love your WWJD bracelet. Where did you get it?
Ricki and I made them for her friends
So very true!! A well put together outfit + a little makeup always makes me feel more polished and productive for the day. Being a stay at home mom it’s so easy to fall into the temptation of wearing comfy yoga outfits whenever possible 🙂
I totally think it’s true. I know for me, when my hair is done, make up on, and wearing cute clothes, and I am not a tiny size 0, more like an add the 1 infront of the 0 haha.. but I feel better, I get way more accomplished, and I have a better attitude!!
Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of yoga days!!! but I hear ya!!
ps.. please please can you do a home décor post soon.. were all dying to see your inspirtationin your home!
Emily…you look great (as always) and I love the outfit, but those black roots are not a good look for you. If you are going to be blonde you need to maintain it. So please go get your roots colored…we all know you can afford it!
I think the filter makes it look worse than it really is… but thank you?
I just want to apologize for Kelli’s comment. I’m sorry! You look beautiful Emily! Why do people think you can be nasty just because we can’t see your face? Devesates me how destructive people can be with their comments. Didn’t your momma teach you to hold your tongue if you don’t have something nice to say?!
Thanks Nadya! xo
Hey Emily.I love looking at your blog on a daily basis! Your outfits are super cute, colorful and very coordinated! I love seeing what you put together each day! Thanks for the inspiration! Have a wonderful day!!
Thanks! xo
Wether Emily can afford to get her roots touched up, between visits, is beyond me. I hope no one nit picks you, and your hair choice, clothing choice, etc. Mamma always told me, if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all. Bless your heart!
Emily, love the outfit, don’t let nasayers get you down! As always, prayers for you and your family!
Thank you Marcy!
Great post (& tribute to Mom’s all over!) Lovin’ the whole look! xoxo
Emily that bag is unreal! It’s gorgeous! And yes I know it sounds shallow but when I look like I just rolled out of bed to run errands I keep my head down and talk to NO one haha. When I do my hair and make up I’ll make small talk with the bag boy at the grocery store. Confidence makes us conquer the world that’s for sure!
I totally agree. When my hair is done, make up on, and when I feel a little more put together, I totally feel like I accomplish way more! I have a better attitude and just a better day!!
PS, Emily, can you PLEASE PLEASE do a home décor post soon, We all want to see how you decorate your home, since we all love your clothing style, 🙂
Emily your skin looks fabulous! May I ask what foundation you are wearing in the spring/summer time? Thanks!
You are beautiful Emily. Looks like Kelli could use some class.
KELLI KEMNETZ are u kidding me? out of this beautiful outfit thats what you pick up? jealousy will get you no where.
Emily love the skirt. i have a pink leather skirt that i never wear because its hard to style it. how else do you wear it?
Kelli Kemnetz….really?!? If you are that judgemental, why even get on people’s blogs? You clearly can’t be inspired with that bad attitude and what Emily or anybody can or can’t afford is frankly none of your business.
Emily thanks for sharing another awesome outfit! Now off to get those DV shoes….
I agree completely! I feel my best when I’ve had a good night sleep, am appropriately dressed and mani, pedi, eyebrows, etc is done! I try to leave the house always looking good but it may not always happen and obviously that’s when I bump into ppl I know!! And when I see someone well put together I vow to never leave my house looking like crap again lol
You look amazing, Nash is precious and I just loved your post and kind thoughts about your Mom.. I bet if you contacted Gigi they would be very happy to add a “J” to your bag and make it official after your married !!!!! gee— that sounds good.. sending lots of love to a beautiful person who always is in my thoughts..
Hi Emily! Jesus teaches us to forgive and look the other way when someone says or does something unkind. He even asks our/His Father for forgiveness for us on the cross because He is aware we don’t know what we don’t know. In today’s world, there is no need for judgment of others because our level of consciousness determines who we are and where we are on our journey in all capacities. I get you already know this, and I am sure you have looked beyond the hair comment. You shine on every level and I admire you.
As for roots ladies, my colorist is Tracey Cunningham at Meche Salon in LA and she is the bomb (go ahead and Google her, I know I Google everyone’s ideas all the time :)… In the last 6 years I have been with her, I have watched her master dark roots on blondes for a beautiful, natural, current, fresh and youthful look. And I am a brunette!
Keep up the great work EM!!
Emily, I don’t follow often but I do enjoy your posts and that is a very cute outfit. Kelli – she doesn’t even have any roots and BTW, if she did, that’s a new hair technique. That comment was really not nice.
Emily – keep up the good work.
Kelli KemNUTS, haha : ) a lot of that is lighting. Cameras do that to the hair where it parts because of shadows, especially blonde. it doesnt look like what you’re saying at all. Get a grip.
Emily, you look gorgeous and we,love you!!!
You’re gorgeous and I love your outfits. If I lived closer to you, I would offer you to take your pictures for your blog (I’m a professional photographer). Your blog is great but you need better pictures for your posts. 🙂
haha I totally agree.. My fiance took these with his iphone 🙂
Yes, please do tell! Where is the WWJD bracelet from? Cute!
Ricki and I made it 🙂
KELLI KEMNETZ ~ grow up ~Your picture on Facebook clearly shows who’s really in need of a trip to the salon!
Emily ~ Love your style! Thanks so much for sharing 😉
I love that whole look – I just wish I could afford it! Do you have any similar bag recommendations in that color that are more affordable? Also – are your shoes the leather or suede dolce vitas?
Are your shoes the leather or suede?
I’m not 100% but I think they’re leather
Are these Shandy wedges taupe or caramel?
🙂
Hi Emily,
As always, I love your outfit. I was wondering where you find stylish dog accessories like this rope leash? My hubby and I are getting our first puppy this summer and I am looking for a leash just like this! Love it.
Thanks 🙂
Jacqueline
Funny how the above comment was the first and only comment of mine that Emily has actually posted. None of the rest of them have been hateful or inappropriate whatsoever. Most of them have been respectful and honest. Perhaps I should not have commented on her roots, however, the first thing I said was that Emily looks great as always. Get a grip people. I was only giving a suggestion. As a blonde myself, I would want to know if and when my roots were showing too bad. Not being hateful or judgmental whatsoever.
